Katy Trail Ice House, Dallas, Texas, United States Bar Review

katy trail ice house

Bright, crisp afternoons are begging to be spent on the patio of the Katy Trail Ice House. On a sunny Saturday, throw on some shades and wander over to this casual, Austin-style joint. Deep Ellum’s Angry Dog is a dark dive bar with plenty of TVs and bar food, like poutine, fried pickles, and a burger. Bullion in Downtown should be your go to spot for celebrations, with its beautiful space, classic cocktails, and mostly-French menu. “This is really to ensure that the Ice House [in Uptown] will always have plenty of parking.” They’ll get an extra 80 spaces out of it.

Get the barbecue plate or the burger, and always a side of fries. Hi, I'm Cris Hazzard, aka Hiking Guy, a professional outdoors guide, hiking expert, and author based in Southern California. I created this website to share all the great hikes I do with everyone else out there. This site is different because it gives detailed directions that even the beginning hiker can follow.

What people say

You can stay up to date with my new guides by following me on YouTube, Instagram, or by subscribing to my monthly newsletter. Don't attempt it if you haven't done long mountain hikes and if you don't have a good level of fitness. Likewise, if there's snow and ice on the route, don't attempt it unless you have winter hiking and mountaineering experience. The owners of Katy Trail Ice House in Uptown Dallas announced that they will build another bar and add much-needed parking spaces near the original beer garden. If you want to do some other great hikes from Icehouse Saddle, check out my directions for Cucamonga Peak and Ontario Peak. If you want to avoid the more populated trails, you can simply turn around here and retrace your steps back to the Icehouse Canyon Trailhead.

Katy's Beer Garden

This is a backcountry hike and you should prepare accordingly. It's also a hike best left for times when there's no snow or ice. Louie’s is a bar on Henderson with a long menu of burgers, pizzas, and pastas, which help to counteract the multiple martinis you’ll order. Lockhart Smokehouse in Oak Cliff is the perfect post-work hangout for a beer and spice-forward brisket. As the most discerning, up-to-the-minute voice in all things travel, Condé Nast Traveler is the global citizen’s bible and muse, offering both inspiration and vital intel. We understand that time is the greatest luxury, which is why Condé Nast Traveler mines its network of experts and influencers so that you never waste a meal, a drink, or a hotel stay wherever you are in the world.

Opening Hours

The new bar is one of two Katy Trail Ice House-related projects in North Texas right now. Cramer and his team are also building a $7 million beer garden in Allen. While it’s expected to look and feel like a sibling restaurant to Katy Trail Ice House, it isn’t an extension of that existing bar, with its picnic tables and shade trees in a backyard setting. It will have a bit of a honky tonk feel, Cramer says, with shuffleboard tables and a jukebox. If you don't feel comfortable walking on the road, it's usually easy to hitchhike at the end of Manker Flats and get a lift from other hikers down to Icehouse. If you want to check if there's snow on your hike, read this guide.

I also share what hiking gear works and doesn't so you don't waste money. I don't do sponsored or promoted content; I share only the gear recommendations, hikes, and tips that I would with my family and friends. If you like the website and YouTube channel, please support these free guides (I couldn't do it without folks like you!).

The rest of the hike directions here follow a loop route back to the hike start. It's designed to let you take in the beauty of the Three Tee's Trail and then you have a nice long descent back to your car. If you want to avoid the more developed portions of the hike, simply hike to Telegraph Peak and return the way you came. You need a parking pass for the Icehouse Canyon Trailhead lot. I use the affordable National Parks Pass, which gets me in every park, monument, and national forest. You can also use a (Southern California only) Adventure Pass, or buy a $5 day permit from the visitor's center.

Katy Trail Ice House is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a fun and relaxed atmosphere in Dallas. This Austin-style beer garden and restaurant is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year until 2 am, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long day or to catch up with friends on the weekends. And if you're in the mood for some BBQ, they have that too! But what really sets Katy Trail Ice House apart is their commitment to giving back to the community. To get to the beer garden and American restaurant located on Routh Street in Dallas, you can take public transport by using DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) bus lines that stop along Routh Street. Alternatively, you can drive and park on any of the open lots or garages located near Routh Street.

Welcome To Katy Trail Ice House

A full food menu that's squarely "pub-grub" status, but very good. The Depot will not have its own kitchen, but staff will sell a small menu of items made at the Ice House like bratwurst, jalapeño sausage and brisket. The depot will have big TVs to watch sports, Cramer says.

The bar is situated on the 3.5-mile Katy Trail, which connects downtown Dallas to Southern Methodist University and University Park, making it a great pop-in during a walk along the trail. The Katy Trail is a privately-maintained public park that extends 3.5 miles from SMU at its north end to the American Airlines Center in the south. Katy Trail Ice House is a restaurant located on the trail where people of all ages, genders, and types gather to drink cold beer, eat good food, and play a few games. If it’s even a remotely nice day in Dallas, which isn’t a rare thing, you should head to Katy Trail Ice House. They have one of the best patios in the city and you’ll want to move in on the weekends. It’s a place where you’ll come for the cold beer and end up posting up for hours - which is when their surprisingly good food will come in handy.

Please note that parking rates may vary depending on the time of day and day of the week. Billing itself as an “Austin-style beer garden,” Katy Trail Ice House has a 50-foot-long bar with 50 beers on tap, natch. It draws crowds thanks to the spacious tree-shaded backyard, which is voted one of the best patios in the city year after year.

The Three T's Trail hike is one of the more peaceful hikes in the Mt Baldy area. It's a long hike, but a favorite for those avoiding crowds. As its spatial envelope makes apparent, the Steven L. Anderson Design Center has increased significantly the Fay Jones School’s studio space—the very heart of a school of architecture. Studios occur on all floors, from ground level to the fourth floor. The Ken and Linda Sue Schollmier Lecture Hall, which rises from the first floor to the second floor of the addition’s northwest side, provides a state-of-the-art lecture hall that accommodates approximately 200 seats, as well as a “standing room” gallery. To achieve these design goals, the addition was conceived in plan and massing to harmonize with Vol Walker Hall’s proportions and spatial configuration. The footprint of the addition replicates that of the traditional structure’s entry (eastern portico) wing, physically and conceptually balancing the old and the new. For every part of your home or business, Anderson Design Center has everything you need to create a beautiful, functional space you’ll enjoy for years to come.

In addition to this UCLA eye clinic, Silcott designed the UCLA Boathouse at Marina del Rey and the Inglewood Courts Building. Personalize your stream and start following your favorite authors, offices and users. “I really try to get to know my clients and their unique needs and desires and make the home their own expression of themselves to the world.” In this case, it’s a shared expression. Everything was going swimmingly, even the incorporation of the marlin Harrison had caught as a teen in Hawaii and a 12-foot-long shuffleboard table.

Meet with an expert like Christine and book a landscape design today. Our Armstrong Torrance landscape designer is anexperienced horticulturist and design professional. The at-home landscapedesign appointment includes walking your garden with you discussing your preferences, lifestyle, and budget and then they'll create a custom landscape design. In that spirit, this map identifies a mix of AIA-selected architectural works and notable homes and churches by black architects. Not to be confused with the other Golden State Mutual Life Insurance building on West Adams Boulevard, this Spanish Colonial Revival structure is considered the insurance company’s first permanent home.

A historic-cultural monument, the Chase Knolls apartment buildings have “a simple and utilitarian modern appearance, with elegant horizontal lines, steel casement windows, and wide overhanging eaves, shading upper windows from the hot Valley sun,” says the LA Conservancy. Vaughn, a black architect, and Wharton went on to design a handful of other garden apartments across LA, including Lincoln Place in Venice and apartments in North Hollywood. A city historic-cultural monument, the house Paul R. Williams designed for himself and his family is a gem in Lafayette Square, a neighborhood of stunning historic homes. The residence is a graceful mix of Hollywood Regency hallmarks—oval spaces, sweeping curves—and more Modernist influences, seen in the home’s International-style exterior, says The Paul R. Williams Project. The house came on the market for the first time ever in December 2017 and sold about three months later for a little under its $2.395 million asking price. When architect Jason E. Morris set out to create a map of Los Angeles to highlight buildings designed by black architects, the body of work he found was smaller than he had hoped.

Proper watering would not only conserve water and be more drought tolerant but actually improve the overall health of California gardens and landscapes. When a project throws a curveball, designers meet the challenge. Silcott was the first African American project architect for both Los Angeles County and the University of California.

At Armstrong Garden Centers our employee-owners want you to be able to focus on the pleasures, not the worries of gardening. The black-owned business folded in 2009, but the building remains a stunning marker of achievement. “African American architects are here, and they’re doing good work here, in LA,” he said.

Anderson says his architectural training and practice has always revolved around an intense collaboration between himself, the client, and the contractors, consultants, and reps involved in the process of design. A remodel that kicked off with Anderson designing the spaces solely for his client morphed into blending his own design aesthetic with that of his partner’s. Inspired by the success of Paul R. Williams, who designed mansions for celebrities and the LA elite, Robert Kennard began his career creating residential designs. He later shifted to work on public buildings, the New York Times wrote in Kennard’s 1995 obituary. According to SoCal NOMA, this police station was one of his last works.

His projects typically include architecture, interior architecture, furnishings, art, and accessories. Built in 1929, this church was built for the congregation of St. Phillip the Evangelist Church, the first historically African American congregation in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and the second oldest historically black Episcopal parish west of the Mississippi, according to the church’s city landmark application. The structure was designed by Williams, Garrott & Young; the Williams was Paul R. Williams, and the Garrott was James H. Garrott.

These garden apartments in Sherman Oaks were built between 1947 and 1949 to address the booming demand for housing in the Valley after World War II.

Williams was a member of the congregation and also oversaw the design of the parish hall, according to the LA Sentinel. The building is attributed to Pereira & Luckman, but Williams was part of the team that designed LAX’s striking Theme Building. The trailblazing architect made a name for himself designing homes for such clients as Frank Sinatra and Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Williams was the first African American member of the American Institute of Architects and later became the organization’s first black fellow in 1957. According to the application for national historic status, the architect, Garrott, “was one of the two most notable African American architects in Los Angeles; the other was Paul Williams.” Garrott was the second black member of the AIA (after Williams).

Important Differences Between MSC Cruises and Other Major Lines

You'll find original Broadway-style musicals, piano concerts and even operas. The line's newest ships have teppanyaki restaurants, too, and passengers on MSC Cruises' Seaside Class ships, as well as MSC Meraviglia and MSC Splendida, can dine at a Mediterranean-style seafood restaurant. The bigger MSC Cruises ships offer vacationers a ton of options for dining (some vessels have more than a dozen distinct places to eat dinner or at least grab a quick bite) or entertainment.

The most basic "Bella" experience will get you fewer points than the top "MSC Yacht Club" experience. During the day, there's no specific dress code, and people dress casually. If it's a sea day in a warm-weather destination and you're bound for the top deck, that means dressing for the beach — T-shirts, shorts and bathing suits (with a cover-up to put on when you go inside) are just fine.

Long Island bar

Tradition and modernity go hand in hand in this stylish teppanyaki restaurant and sushi restaurant. This charming venue offers deliciously authentic Asian cuisine prepared on the spot with only the freshest, highest quality ingredients. It is connected with the aquapark with a Pirates Cove theme to create an extensive water area. In North America, MSC Cruises ships have generally sailed out of Miami, but the line recently added Port Canaveral and New York City as home ports, too. The line also offers cruises from the Caribbean islands of Barbados, Martinique and Guadeloupe, and in a major development, the line opened its first private island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, in the Bahamas in 2019.

Compare that to a line like Carnival that includes spots like Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana, and more restaurants with the cruise fare. Having recently sailed on MSC, as well as sailing the other major cruise lines regularly, we can tell you that there are some major differences between this line and its competitors. It made a mark with the introduction of the MSC Seaside in the U.S., followed by MSC Seascape more recently, but that’s just the start.

The road project comprises approx 11,5 km (7 mi) concrete road, 3 road junctions, 1 level crossing, 3 rail viaducts. The CER project was scheduled for completion by the end of 2020. Port developments over the years resulted in a complex infrastructure with numerous docks and harbor-basins (sheltered port zones). Port's harbor area was enlarged with the Europoort complex built along Nieuwe Waterweg's mouth.

Rotterdam Port Information

For only about $22/person, you get unlimited tea, coffee, bottled water, and a great selection of sweet and savory snacks. Not only is this a fun and unique thing to do for a few hours, but the walk from the Rotterdam Cruise Port is through a beautiful park with amazing historic homes on display. The houses were designed with the idea of creating a “village within a city.” Blom’s concept was to tilt a traditional house by 45 degrees and place it on top of a concrete hexagon-shaped pylon. Each cube represents a tree, and when all the cubes are put together, they form a forest. If you want to see what restaurants and pop-ups are currently in the Markthal, visit the Markthal website for the most current information.

Rotterdam Cruise Port Guide

“Port of Rotterdam” is an industrial facility and is NOT where your cruise will be! If you’re looking for the cruise ship on a map do NOT look for “The Port of Rotterdam” – you’ll be in the wrong place. Rotterdam serves as both a starting point and a port of call for many cruise itineraries. Passengers can embark on cruises to various destinations, including the Baltic Sea, Norwegian fjords, British Isles, Mediterranean, and beyond. The port’s central location allows for convenient access to a range of unique cruise routes.

Rotterdam Central Station (Centraal):

Known for its rich history, picturesque canals, and renowned Delftware ceramics, Delft offers a delightful blend of old-world charm and vibrant cultural experiences. The train travel time is about 40 minutes from Rotterdam Centraal Station and tickets are available at a ticket counter or via kiosk. The trains are almost all direct without any changes and will end in the city center of Amsterdam. After the third light, turn right at the second access road. Entrance to the underground parking area is situated in front of the terminal.

Amazing experiences coming soon

A shimmering, inverted U-shape housing glass-walled apartments and offices arches over a market, where over 100 stalls, 15 shops, and eight restaurants sell their wares. This is the place to come for cheese, plants and flowers, fresh bread, delicious deli food, coffee, and people-watching. Marvel at the architectural splendor of Rotterdam Central Station (Centraal Station), known for its unique design and striking features. It’s not just a transportation hub but also houses shops, cafes, and restaurants. Be sure to explore the area immediately around the station, as it has been improved over recent years with a ton of small cafes and bars. Best explored on foot, the city is home to over 1000 monuments including the Great Church (Grote Kerk).

The terminal building itself is a stunning architectural masterpiece, combining elements of the city’s rich maritime heritage with contemporary design. Inside, passengers will find a spacious and comfortable environment, complete with check-in counters, waiting areas, and customs and immigration services. One of the notable features of this terminal is its close proximity to popular tourist attractions. From the terminal, it’s just a short walk to the iconic SS Rotterdam, a beautifully restored former ocean liner that now serves as a hotel and museum. Visitors can explore the ship’s intriguing history, enjoy stunning views of the city from its decks, and dine at its restaurants.

In February 2015, quay’s repaving replacement was at 70% ready. Much of the port's container loading and stacking operations are handled by unmanned large-capacity robotic cranes and AGVs (automated guided vehicles / aka chariots). They navigate their own way around the container terminal guided by a magnetic grid built into the tarmac.

In 2011 the Cruise Terminal received the status of National monument. Getting to Amsterdam from the Rotterdam Cruise Terminal is relatively simple using public transportation. However some people may choose a private transportation service, which can be quite expensive. Yes, it’s possible with a 45-minute walk (about 2 miles away), however, the Metro goes directly to Central Station which may be a better option for people with more limited time or mobility issues.

The Rotterdam Cruise Port is well-connected to the city’s public transportation network. Additionally, the port offers ample parking facilities for passengers who choose to arrive by car. While the terminal is located outside of the city center, it provides convenient transportation options. Shuttle buses are available to transport passengers to and from the terminal, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free journey.

If you’re visiting Rotterdam, don’t miss the opportunity to explore the Cube Houses and experience this fascinating example of architectural creativity. Rotterdam is one of the most unique cities in The Netherlands that is often overlooked by tourists who think Amsterdam is the only place the country has to offer. Unlike other Dutch cities, Rotterdam is a city where modern architecture is blended with historic buildings.

Lose yourself in some of the world’s greatest art galleries, gaze at crenelated castles, and marvel at an otherworldly landscape shaped by fire and ice in Iceland. On a cruise from Rotterdam to the serenely beautiful Norwegian fjords, breathe the pure air and gaze at tumbling waterfalls and wildflower-strewn meadows. Ride the vertiginous Flåm Railway through wild mountain landscapes, or kayak the still waters of the Geirangerfjord, where seals bask on the rocks. Admire the art nouveau architecture of pretty Alesund, and join a hike from Stavanger to the iconic Pulpit Rock, jutting out over the Lysefjord, 1,980 feet below. Observation Decks – The Euromast Tower features two observation decks accessible by high-speed elevators. The lower deck is situated at a height of 92 meters (302 feet), providing wide views over Rotterdam.

We highly recommend getting on an intercity train rather than the “stoptrein” which stops at every station. The Cruise Terminal at Cruise Port Rotterdam boasts a modern and spacious building that can accommodate multiple cruise ships at once. Inside, passengers will find well-designed check-in counters, comfortable waiting areas, and efficient customs and immigration facilities. In terms of transportation, the Cruise Terminal at Holland Amerika Quay provides easy access to various modes of transportation.
